Today we got to go to Williamsburg, It was a fabulous day out and my foot is finally doing good. So we dressed the kids in there wonderful Costumes , my wonderful mother made , packed a picnic and headed out.

Williamsburg is my favorite place out here.

There is so much rich history and to get to see it and hear about hands on is so wonderful. Today we went to the Mental hospital , and then the museum with muskets , which Cantrell and Steven just loved and Steven explained to us how the guns work. There was china , silver , pottery , oh there is so much in this museum and its just one of the many. Then we had our picnic on the lawn. Then walked over to see the first slave church, then we went to the weavers house oh what fun, they spun the yarn and were making a bed rug, very different then what we use these days. We also learned that they use cochineal bugs to dye the yarn a deep red color and that still to this day do they use this bug in food, cosmetic and other things to dye it with. Which i think is so nasty , i understand the yarn but the rest yuck.

We went into some stores to look around, Then we stoped by this wonderful garden , it would have been a garden of the wealthy , The gardener was so interesting to listen to. He explained the hot box , which is where they would put about 30inches of horse manure then top soil. in this box that you would put a glass window on the top to keep the cold out and you could grow vegetables almost all year round. He told us how the slaves would get a peck of dry corn and a Little meat and thats what they ate each week and the middle class would buy there produce and meat at market square, but the rich would have big gardens which master gardeners would work with slaves . or it would be a flower garden . Either way it was a sign of his wealth. Its was so fascinating. I can hardly go back and see more of it. I'm so glad they sell yearly passes. We stoped by the bakery last and enjoyed some treats and and cold drinks. They had these pretzel rolls they are delicious. we bought a dozen for home. On our way out we found a geo cach. which was fun to find there. more on geo caching later.

The history of our country is amazing and I and my family are so fascinated with history it has become our family search. I am so grateful i have children who love to learn and they are having a great time while learning.
